About Bodhgaya

Located in the Gaya district in the state of Bihar, Bodhgaya is one of the most important of the four main Buddhist pilgrim sites in India. This is the place where Prince Gautama attained enlightenment and became known as Lord Gautama Buddha. Maha Bodhi temple erected near the Bodhi tree is the main temple of Bodhgaya and exudes unsurpassed sovereignty that leaves tourists mesmerised.

Bodhgaya attracts many tourists and Buddhists round the year especially between the months of October to March to visit the many beautiful temples built around the town and the main temple. Bodhgaya has an amalgamation of many temples built by several Buddhists centuries ago from many different countries. One can witness a Japan Nippon temple built near Maha Bodhi temple built by the Japanese in their traditional style and architecture called Pagoda, the Chinese temple holds a grand statue of Lord Buddha brought from China and represents their traditional architectural style, the Burmese temple is also Pagoda but significant of Bagan, Thai temple, Nepalese temple, Sri Lankan temple, etc. are all built in their respective traditional style reflecting the beauty of the place and the translations of the work of Lord Buddha on the walls of the temple. Erected in a beautiful garden near the Thai temple is a 25 mtr. Statue of Lord Buddha said to be in existence for more than a century and is another main attraction of Bodhgaya.
